Ruth - Bilateral Total Shoulder Replacement

My name is Ruth Goldwyn and I am a retired operating room Registered Nurse.  In 2004 my right shoulder started giving me problems and I sought professional help.  I tried oral medications and injections that were ineffective.  During this time I witnessed the slow loss of my mobility.  I struggled to brush my hair and driving was difficult.

The time had come to make a decision.  My local surgeon said my shoulder was ready for a replacement, but I was not.  Then while at a social function with my husband I met a long time acquaintance who recently had surgery at Columbia Presbyterian.  Her doctor was Dr. Louis Bigliani and her surgery was a success.  I went home and made an appointment to see him the following week.  I was so confident and at ease that I knew if I wanted the best doctor, he was it. In July of 2005 on a Wednesday I was admitted to the hospital and by Friday I was discharged.  A week later I saw my internist who was awed that I was doing so well and in therapy.  I was a textbook case. Five years later, at the age of 77, when my left shoulder started to trouble me, I went back to Dr. Bigliani due his skill and experience.

Thank you Dr. Bigliani for giving me back the complete function of both arms.  My grandchildren cannot thank you enough when I hold them high and swing them to laughter.
