William N. Levine, MD, is a renowned specialist in arthroscopic and open shoulder, elbow, and knee surgery and sports medicine.  He is Vice Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and serves as its Residency Director and Fellowship Co-Director.  Dr. Levine is the Head Team Physician for Columbia University, responsible for providing care for its 31 intercollegiate athletic teams. He is the recipient of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon’s Traveling Fellowship and was recently named the incoming Chairman of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s (AOSSM) STOP Youth Sports Steering Committee – a program designed to bring awareness to coaches, parents, and youth athletes to decrease the epidemic of overuse injuries.

Dr. Levine has given over 200 scientific presentations both here and abroad, has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and 50 book chapters, and has edited 3 textbooks. Additionally, he serves as the Deputy Editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS). He has served on the Board of Directors of the AOSSM and is currently on the Executive Committee of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) – the oldest and one of the most prestigious Orthopaedic organizations.  

Dr. Levine is a former tennis professional and lives in Manhattan with his wife and 2 daughters.
