Jillian - ACL Reconstruction

February 21st, 2010 was a typical winter weekend out on the slopes with my family and friends at Hunter Mountain, until a slight fall that changed the next six months of my life. It wasn’t a very dramatic fall and I still continued skiing for the next 2 hours until lunchtime. Then, the adventure began, when I went back out for a lovely afternoon of skiing and realized I couldn’t walk without excruciating pain. I stripped off my ski attire and realized my knee was a big ball of redness. I was taken out by wheelchair into my mothers’ car and we drove two very long hours down windy roads and highways to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York. After a few hours of x-rays and meeting with the doctor, I left with crutches in hand. The next day we went to our local orthopedic and found he was not comfortable with performing an ACL reconstruction because of my young age. My parents started researching doctors and ACL surgery and, lucky for me, we found Dr. Ahmad and made an appointment. After we saw him for two visits, he had a surgery to offer me that would not affect me because of my young age. Dr. Ahmad said he was able to perform an ACL reconstruction. We quickly picked a surgery date, April 1st, 2010. After months of rehab and not participating in sports, a year later, I now stand a healthy 12 year old alpine ski racer. Thank you Dr. Ahmad!
